Steller sea lion populations in western Alaska have crashed since the mid-1980s. We use trained Steller sea lions to test the effects of changes in the physical and biological environment, including the effects of changes in prey distribution on diving behaviour, physiology, and energetics. The goal is to develop science-based conservation strategies for the management and recovery of the species.
